Innovation thrives at the intersection of technology, education, and entrepreneurship—exactly where mytCreative (pronounced “Mighty Creative”) stands. Founded with the vision of delivering enterprise-level digital solutions to small businesses while mentoring the next generation of creative minds, in this interview, Dr. Pamela Bynum, Founder & CEO, mytCreative shares her journey from NASA to launching a mission-driven startup, the challenges of scaling a business, and the lessons learned along the way.
Q1: Could you tell us a little bit about your company?
mytCreative (pronounced “Mighty Creative”) was founded on the idea of being an extension of our clients’ creative teams. The name represents our commitment to delivering powerful and innovative solutions. Our slogan, “When our team becomes your team,” captures our collaborative approach.
Our vision is twofold: to empower business growth through digital solutions and to inspire future generations of digital creative minds. We not only support business owners with enterprise-level technology solutions but also mentor young talent, teaching problem-solving skills through web development. Our youth program creates a tiered pathway for real-world experience, bridging the gap between learning and application.
At mytCreative, we see ourselves as collaborative problem-solvers, working alongside clients to craft solutions that meet their technical needs while also shaping the future of digital innovation.
Q2: What inspired you to start your own company?
My journey into entrepreneurship was deeply personal. While I’ve always been passionate about solving problems through technology, my experience with a cancer diagnosis reshaped my perspective. It forced me to step back and reconsider how I could best contribute to the world. Returning to a traditional job no longer felt right—I wanted to create something meaningful, something that would empower others.
One pivotal moment came when I saw my son’s friend struggling to complete homework on his phone because he lacked access to a computer and the internet at home. That experience underscored the need for greater accessibility to digital tools and learning resources. I wanted to build a space where young people could gain the skills and confidence to succeed in technology.
My background as a lead developer at NASA, where I bridged the gap between developers and designers, also shaped my vision. I saw an opportunity to use existing technologies to help businesses with digital transformation while simultaneously creating hands-on learning experiences for the next generation. mytCreative exists to do both—delivering cutting-edge digital solutions while opening doors for future innovators.
Q3: What previous experiences influence your role today?
As the Founder, CEO, and Digital Solutions Developer at mytCreative, I draw from a unique blend of technical expertise and global leadership. My background in Computer Science and Web Development forms the foundation of our work, which includes front-end development, system integration, and scalable technology solutions.
Beyond my technical skills, my education in Diplomacy and my role as a Peace Ambassador to the UN influence how I lead. I hold an Honorary Doctorate in Humanitarianism and work on digital transformation in education, with a focus on ethical AI and entrepreneurship. This broader perspective allows me to approach technology not just as a tool for business growth, but as a means to drive meaningful change.
At mytCreative, our work goes beyond software and strategy. We’re building responsible, future-ready digital minds, ensuring that businesses and communities alike benefit from innovation. My global perspective strengthens my commitment to harnessing technology for good—making education more accessible and ensuring that businesses thrive in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Q4: What are the biggest challenges you’ve encountered as a startup founder this far, and how did you overcome them?
One of the biggest challenges has been transitioning from a solo entrepreneur to leading a team. mytCreative culture is built on collaboration, problem-solving, and impact, and ensuring every new team member aligns with that vision takes effort. Effective communication, mentorship, and a shared purpose have been critical in fostering a strong, mission-driven team.
Another challenge is balancing service delivery with sustainable growth. As a service-based business, revenue is tied to client acquisition and retention. While our recurring revenue model provides stability, we recognized the need to scale in a way that wasn’t solely reliant on hands-on service delivery.
To address this, we’ve developed scalable product solutions that allow clients to access and implement technology independently, with the option of concierge services when needed. This approach creates a more predictable revenue stream, increases scalability, and gives clients flexibility in how they engage with us.
Ultimately, overcoming challenges has come down to adaptability—continuously refining our processes, maintaining open communication, and ensuring that as we grow, our core mission remains unchanged.
Q5: Do you have any mentors or role models who have inspired you while you have been building your business?
Absolutely. Several mentors have been instrumental in my journey. Ronnie Shade, my first mentor, not only encouraged me to start my business but also became my first client and remains a valued partner.
Bridget Phifer, CEO of Living Better Life, taught me the power of collaboration and mentorship, providing critical insights into funding and community-building. Issac Blount, the “entrepreneur doctor,” helped me refine my focus, own my story, and recognize my value as a business leader.
Beyond individual mentors, mastermind groups and industry experts have provided ongoing support, and the RIoT Accelerator Program has been invaluable in scaling my business. These relationships have shaped my approach to leadership and reinforced my commitment to innovation and education through technology.
Q6: What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs and future startup founders based on your own experiences and lessons learned?
Embrace “divine disruption”—those unexpected moments that challenge your path but lead to new opportunities. True innovation often comes from discomfort and change.
Be willing to step outside your comfort zone. Entrepreneurship requires challenging industry norms, redefining best practices, and thinking beyond traditional boundaries.
Understand that learning is a continuous process. The best entrepreneurs seek out opportunities to grow, iterate, and refine their approach. Surround yourself with people who are equally eager to learn and evolve.
Most importantly, take action. Knowledge is only valuable if applied. Whether in digital transformation or business building, success comes from execution, not just ideas.
At mytCreative, our mission is clear: to drive business transformation, elevate brands, and shape the next generation of digital innovators. The journey is challenging, but for those willing to embrace the unknown, the possibilities are limitless.
