What is your name, title, and role at your company?

Greg Patterson. I am president of Porticos. Like my co-founders and other management team members, I tend to wear many hats. But, I would say my primary focus is on business operations and business development.

What does your company do?

Porticos is a product development company experienced in all aspects of research & design (R & R&D). We are solid in the engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, and software) typically associated with today’s smart devices. Porticos’ development process is readily customizable to meet the customer’s unique product and project requirements. Allowing us to handle anything from stand-alone ideation, research, or innovation tasks to complete product development up thru industrialization of the commercial product.

What are some neat projects that your company is currently working on?

Confidentiality limits what we can say about current projects, but I can say that we have 36 projects running concurrently with 27 different customers. Projects range from radios that must meet extreme military requirements to patient-worn and bedside medical products to purely research efforts working with Government and local Universities.

How would you describe your company’s culture?

Porticos focuses on exceeding our customer’s expectations while maintaining our team’s creative and flexible work environment. It may sound like a tagline, but it indeed describes our culture from the top down.

How does your company differentiate itself from your competitors?

There are two main pillars that I think differentiates Porticos from our competitors:

  1. Innovation. Our team of engineers is extremely creative, as evidenced by the nearly 200 patents on which our engineers are listed as inventors. Customers come to Porticos to develop solutions that most other design firms are not capable of.
  2. Experience. The individual engineers on our team come from a wide range of disciplines; Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and even Economics. We have a breadth of experience in developing products over various markets.

If you could see anyone in concert, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

Probably a tie between Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn. I like a wide range of music, from bluegrass to blues to classic rock to southern rock. But one of the leading “requirements” for music I like is strong musicianship. Guitar being my favorite instrument, I’ve had the privilege of seeing many different musicians and bands over the years but never had a chance to see either of those two legends.

Is there anything additional you would like to share about your company?

I’m proud of the team that we’ve built and the reputation that we’ve earned since starting back in 2003. I can honestly say that we have helped many small companies, individual inventors, and even college students along the way, to the extent of providing free advice and guidance. Anyone with a small business can attest that it’s often a roller coaster ride. But in the long run, it’s a rewarding experience and a journey I wouldn’t change even if I had the chance to go back.
