In an age that is increasingly prioritizing mental health, particularly highlighted by the pandemic’s impact on mental well-being, it is crucial for all of us to focus on efforts for alleviating stress and enhancing our own mental well-being. One spring “RIoT Accelerator Program” cohort member, Charlotte C. Louis is doing important work in this realm, taking it further than an internal focus on mental health. Louis created a company specifically focused on lifting up professional women to empower them to reduce stress, create work-life balance, personal and professional growth, and maximize their earning potential.

Join us in celebrating the recent two year anniversary of SenterME Wellness, founded by Charlotte C. Louis. SenterME empowers women professionals to achieve emotional well-being and stress relief. It offers a supportive community with workshops, events, and resources designed to address the unique challenges women face in the workforce. By prioritizing self-love and fostering a safe space for women to connect, SenterME helps women navigate modern life with confidence and find success in both personal and professional areas of life. This week we delve into Charlotte’s story and inspiration for this impactful venture.

Q1: Could you tell us a little bit about your company?

We are a wellness tech platform that creates easily accessible pathways to emotional wellness and stress relief for women professionals. We create a clear path to emotional wellness and stress relief that includes a rewards ecosystem that champions local small historically underutilized businesses, fostering a symbiotic relationship between personal well-being and community empowerment.

Q2: What inspired you to start your own company?

I was inspired by my journey of self-love to start SenterME. I immediately saw the demand from visiting universities when the women faculty and administrators would express interest in my workshops for the students. The more I would talk about what I do in spaces with women entrepreneurs and professionals in general, women would begin to ask for workshops and events for them and eventually, I decided to focus on women professionals.

Q4: What previous experiences influence your role today?

My experience as an entrepreneur owning a previous business has helped give me a leg up in leadership and discipline. I bring a diverse skill set rooted in relationship building, honed over 16 years as a former financial advisor, corporate trainer, and entrepreneur. My work ethic has sharpened my agility, problem-solving abilities, and people-oriented approach. Personal struggles with emotional wellness inform my empathetic leadership, fostering a DEI-focused, trust-driven culture at SenterME.

Q5: What are the biggest challenges you’ve encountered as a startup founder this far, and how did you overcome them?

The biggest challenges that I have encountered as a startup founder this far are juggling motherhood, getting paid opportunities, and accessing non-dilutive funding to secure the development of the SenterME platform. I prioritize my wellness so that the challenges don’t weigh on me emotionally and mentally and this helps me to better strategize solutions.

Q6: Do you have any mentors or role models who have inspired you while you have been building your business?

I don’t have any role models but I have been blessed to have unofficial mentors and now I have two official mentors who are all so supportive and genuinely invested in my growth and development.

Q7: What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs and future startup founders based on your own experiences and lessons learned?

Prioritize your wellness. At the end and beginning of the day, there is only you. So lead with authenticity and keep it real with yourself. If you’re tired, get some rest, if you’re stuck, ask for help, if you’re stressed, DO NOT WORK because it’s like driving under the influence, invest in your expression (work) by always meeting your needs first and you’ll significantly reduce mistakes/accidents along the way.

Congratulations to Charlotte and her team for celebrating their two year anniversary this past week and for the incredible work that they do. We look forward to seeing what the future holds at SenterME Wellness.
