What is your name, title, and role at your company?
Cristina Botero, Head of Business Development
What does your company do?
Ubidots is a low-code IoT development platform for engineers and companies without the time or energy to build an entire, production-ready IoT application themselves. From device-friendly APIs to a clean UI for end-users, Ubidots provides the essential building blocks to bring you faster to market, without having to hire an expensive team of engineers to develop and maintain a customized solution.
What are some neat projects that your company is currently working on?
IoT has always been pointed as an intrinsic part of Industry 4.0 and at Ubidots we’re constantly looking for ways to contribute to that transition. For example, we’re working on the introduction of SCADA visualizations to our platform, which combines the best of both worlds: it helps to connect the factories and preserves a trusted and popular tool like the SCADA designs. Even our partnerships aim at simplifying industrial applications, like in the case of our friend Steve Barker.
How would you describe your company’s culture?
We’re like a high-performance team of 32 athletes that are constantly striving to get better together. You have crazy intelligent people around you 24/7. The best part is that sharing knowledge is in our DNA, whether it’s related to drones, 3D printing, fishing, the tips-and-tricks to be great developers, or about all kinds of cool hobbies. I’ve been here for almost 4 years now and the culture is my favorite part of our routine.
How does your company differentiate itself from your competitors?
In Ubidots you don’t have to be a top customer to receive white-glove support. From IoT entrepreneurs to the enterprise, our client base is served by a customer success team made up of engineers with experience in IoT technologies across the stack. Our sole purpose is to help you scale your project reliably.
If you could see anyone in concert, alive or dead, who would it be and why?
Alicia Keys: I’m just obsessed. I love her music, her as a person, her story… I even dream that we’re friends. I sent her so many fan messages on Instagram that I got a reply one time, and I printed the screenshot!
Is there anything additional you would like to share about your company?
Our team is 100% Latin American. Having people from different countries such as Argentina, Venezuela, Mexico, and Colombia not only contributes to the company’s culture by exposing us to different customs, but also fulfills the early ambition of the company of showing that it’s possible to build and run IT businesses from Latin America.
